Developer options & wireless debugging for screen-off mode
Advanced screen-off mode keeps relaying with your phone's display completely off — even while another app is open. To do that it uses your phone's own wireless debugging, entirely on-device. It's a one-time setup.
Yes. Nothing leaves your phone. The app connects to its own on-device debugger over an encrypted local (loopback) connection — the same technique tools like Shizuku use — purely to keep the controller reader alive with the screen off.
Step 1 — Enable Developer options
- Open Settings → About phone.
- Find Build number (on Samsung: About phone → Software information) and tap it seven times.
- Enter your PIN if asked — you'll see "You are now a developer."
Step 2 — Turn on Wireless debugging
- Open Settings → System → Developer options (on Samsung it's just Settings → Developer options, near the bottom).
- Scroll to Wireless debugging and switch it ON. Allow it on your current network when prompted.
Android turns wireless debugging off after a restart. Just flip it back on when you want screen-off mode again — after the first pairing, the app reconnects without pairing again.
Step 3 — Pair the app (one time)
The first time you turn on Advanced screen-off, the app needs to pair with your phone's debugger. On most phones — Samsung/One UI especially — do this:
- In Controller Gateway, tap Advanced screen-off. It will prompt to pair and post a notification.
- Open Settings → Developer options → Wireless debugging → Pair device with pairing code. A 6-digit code and a port appear. Leave this screen open.
- The app finds the pairing port automatically. Type the 6-digit code into the app's notification (the inline reply) and send it.
- Pairing completes, the app connects, and the relay arms. You can now turn the screen off — the controller keeps working.
Android closes the pairing code after a short time or if you navigate away, so keep the "Pair device with pairing code" dialog on screen until the app confirms it paired.
Using it day to day
Once paired, tap Advanced screen-off, turn the display off, and play. A persistent notification shows it's active, with a Stop action. After a reboot, re-enable wireless debugging (Step 2) and activate again — it skips straight to connecting.
Stuck on "Arming…"?
If pairing or arming won't complete, the troubleshooting guide walks through it — including the Cancel option and the auto-timeout.
